General MacArthur's Prayer for His Son

Build me a son, O Lord, who will be strong enough to know when he is weak; and brave enough to face himself when he is afraid; one who will be pround and unbending in honest defeat and humble and gentle in victory.

Build me a son whose wishes will not take the place of deeds; a son who will know Thee -- and that to know himself is the foundation stone of knowledge.

Lead him, I pray, not in the path of ease and comfort, but under the stress and spur of difficulties and challenge. Here let him learn to stand up in the storm; here let him learn compassion for those who fail.

Build me a son whose heart will be clear, whose goal will be high, a son who will master himself before he seeks to master other men, one who will reach into the future, yet never forget the past.

And after all these things are his, add, I pray, enough of a sense of humor, so that he may always be serious, yet never take himself too seriously. Give him humility, so that he may always remember the simplicity of true greatness, the open mind of true wisdom, and the meekness of true strength.

Then I, his father, will dare to whisper, "I have not lived in vain!"

REAL FRIEND

A simple friend, when visiting, acts like a guest.

A real friend opens your refrigerator and helps himself (and doesn't feel even the least bit weird shutting your Diet Coke/ Pepsi drawer with her foot!)

A simple friend has never seen you cry. A real friend has shoulders soggy from your tears...

A simple friend doesn't know your parents' first names. A real friend has their phone numbers in their address book.

A simple friend brings a bottle of wine to your party. A real friend comes early to help you cook and stays late to help you clean.

A simple friend hates it when you call after they've gone to bed. A real friend asks you why you took so long to call.

A simple friend seeks to talk with you about their problems. A real friend seeks to help you with your problems.

A simple friend wonders about your romantic history. A real friend could blackmail you with it.

A simple friend thinks the friendship is over when you have an argument. A real friend calls you after you had a fight.

A simple friend expects you to always be there for them. A real friend expects to always be there for you!

What is I-Kuan-Tao

The Chinese words I-kuan Tao can be roughly translated as the "Religion of   One Unity." The name belies I-kuan Tao's nature as a religious doctrine that   draws upon both traditional Chinese teachings and each of the world's major   religions. I-kuan Tao is a modern, syncretic faith, and the third most popular   religion in Taiwan.

Four Major Sufferings: Birth, Aging, Sickness and Death

Being human is difficult.
A human is difficult to be.
It is difficult to be human.

1. The suffering of birth.
When we are born int the world, we cannot avoid the eight major sufferings.
When we are born into the world we become restless, with ceaseless, anxious thoughts.
Rushing all day for fame and gain, who are we working and saving for?

2. The suffering of old age.
When people grow old they become weak and their memory begins to fade.
Guarding the door, they look after the house in loneliness.
The hairs on their temples grow snowy white.
Their bodies are thin and gaunt and they no longer have a say in the running of the household.

3. The suffering of illness.
I have no fear of death but I am afraid of being ill.

4. The suffering of death.
People fear death as they would fear a ferocious tiger.
Their husbands or wives and their children weep.
The skeleton is ignored in the desolate wilderness.
Who really knows the suffering of the soul?
